“Clarisa Friend, an Inspiration to All of Us”

Few things in life are as devastating as the loss of a child. I have learned that we all seem to have our own ways of dealing with such grief. But few turn it into a positive event.

Clarisa not only lost one child but within 6 weeks she lost two. Her precious daughter Rachel was killed on Sunday morning in an auto accident on her way home to prepare for the service at the Coal Run Church of Christ. She had talked to her brother James about accepting the Lord as his savior. A week after Rachael was laid to rest, James claimed Jesus as his Lord and was baptized into Christ He had no ideal that within five more weeks he would also be laid to rest beside his sister. Although a young man of 19, he died suddenly of a heart attack.

This precious mother had lost two of her three children within six weeks. How does one bear such a burden? Hundreds of her friends, family and her brothers and sisters in Christ reached out to her with compassion.

James had purchased his ticket for Mexico. He had planned to accompany the group from Pikeville, Ky to work on the building in Salvatierra. He was anxious to make the trip and be a part of the project for the Lord.

Clarisa first thought of getting someone to use his ticket. Steve Treap suggested that she take his place. And that is, what she decided to do. As anyone in the group can tell you, he would have been proud of his mother. She worked as hard as anyone. For four days she soaked the bricks in water and handed them to the men on scaffolds who were laying them.

There is no plaque on the small Church of Christ building in honor of James. But as long as the brothers and sisters in Salvatierra worship the Lord in this place, the efforts of Clarisa in honor of her son will continue to bear fruit for the Lord. She has helped to build a memorial with her own hands to her son and to her God. Who can choose a better way to deal with their grief.

Thank you dear sister for being an example to all.

I have a special bond for this family. Clarisa’s daughter Rachael, rescued my young granddaughter from drowning.

Work Projects Successfully Completed.

Our brethren from the States came fromIndiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina. They were joined in Mexico by brethren from Irapuato, Urireo, Salvatierra, and Toluca. Altogether there were over 50 who labored to raise up a place of worship for the Mexican brothers. Many came for the first time while others where old timers to the work.. God bless everyone for their time effort and money that you invested in the Lord’s work in Mexico.

This year the men were joined by four sisiters who pulled their weight and more. The church building in Irapuato now has bathrooms cement floors and plastered walls. The walls for the second floor have been completed and it is ready for a new roof. Chon, preacher from Salvatierra now has electric lights installed in his house.

“Please Pray for our Sick”

Chon’s wife Chole has a serious problem with her lungs. She is being treated by a specialist in Mexico City and has improved somewhat.

Juan has lost the site in one eye and is in danger of losing another.

These folks need your prayers and support. The extra cost of medical care is putting some strain on our fund and is causing some hardship for them.

“Baptisms in Urireo”

I have never seen an ice storm in Mexico in all my years of traveling. This year proved to be the exception. In a few minutes there was one inch or better of ice on the ground. But in spite of the ice and the cold temperature, two new sisters were baptized into Christ even though their bodies were shivering.

Bro. Chon reported two more baptisms there this past week.
And all the people say it!!!

It is because you care enough to pray and to sacrificially give of your
income that these things are possible. May it all be to the honor and glory of our God.

May the good Lord Bless us Everyone.

Your humble
servant.
