Court Document Relating to Allen Family

The following document is an excerpt from a court case on file in the Smyth County (Virginia) Courthouse. The case pertained to a lawsuit brought by a creditor of Thomas Allen's following his death. This is the only known contemporary "official" document that names the children of Thomas Allen. His children were all born prior to birth records being kept. The opposing attorney in the case names Thomas Allen's heirs as "his widow Elizabeth and the following children and distributors viz--Samuel G. Allen, Robert B. Allen, and Mary Ann Cullop the wife of George W. Cullop..." Thomas Allen's son, William Townsend Allen, had predeceased him.
